Pregnant after 12 years of marriage and infertility treatments| Acupuncture of Dallas

Dr. Lin Zhou was a blessing to my family! My husband and I were trying to have a baby for the past 12 years. Due to my PCOS and his low sperm count issue our attempts were never successful. After two failed IUI in India we moved to Dallas, hoping for a better treatment.

As I turned 37 and after 12 years of marriage we decided to go for IVF, considering our continues failed attempts and age factor ūüôĀ

At the same time, I was concerned about the side effects of hormone injections and medicines. While I was looking for treatments to complement IVF,  I came across Dr. Lin Zhou’s reproductive acupuncture treatment. I read positive reviews about her and decided to take acupuncture with Dr. Zhou as she has wide knowledge in the field and experience.

My husband and I started our treatment during July 2016 and to our great surprise I conceived the same month but it didn’t last more than 7 weeks. We commenced the treatment after a gap of 2 months. Dr. Zhou calculated my ovulation and asked me to chart my temperature. Once a week of¬† acupuncture treatments, her herbal medicines and ovulation tracking helped me to get pregnant in November 2016. By God‚Äôs Grace I delivered a healthy girl baby in August 2017! I have no words to describe how grateful I am to Dr. Zhou. She helped our 12 years of prayer to come true with her magical touch and concern during the consultation . I highly recommend Dr. Zhou for infertility treatments and she will always be in my prayers and memory!

A new study conducted that shows Acupuncture can assist IVF|Acupuncture of Dallas

A recent study done by Dr. Hana Visnova at her clinic where she logged data from three years of IVF cycles, involving thousands of patients. The study found that there was an increased pregnancy rate–66% compared to 60% in those who used Acupuncture immediately before and after embryo implantation and those who didn’t.(Source)

Acupuncture is used before embryo implantation because it can increase blood flow to the uterus. This also makes the lining of the uterus itself more receptive to the embryo when it’s transferred which aids implantation during IVF.

Also, acupuncture has been proven to help with stress, and undergoing IVF can be a stressful time. When the body is overwhelmed with stress, it goes into “fight or flight mode” which is not good for reproductive health. So, by reducing your stress levels, acupuncture can help your body react better to IVF.

So, if you are about to undergo an IVF cycle or currently in one and are interested in Acupuncture for IVF support please give us a call at 972-671-6688 or email us in the contact form on the sidebar.

Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine works well for postpartum depression

After having a baby, many women have mood swings. They may feel a little depressed, have a hard time concentrating, fatigue, anxiety, lose their appetite, or find they can’t sleep well. If you have any of these symptoms a few days after delivery this is considered a normal part of early motherhood and usually goes away within 10 days after delivery.  In about 20% of women, these systems start about six weeks after delivery are more likely to have postpartum depression.

Western medicine thinks that hormone levels change may produce chemical changes in the brain. Counseling and prescription medicines are the common solution.

Chinese Medicine believes that the exertion and loss of blood occurring at childbirth induce a state of Qi and Blood deficiency. From a Chinese Medicine point of view, the heart houses the mind and governs blood, deficient blood fails to house the mind which becomes depressed and anxious.  In women with a pre-existing deficiency of Qi and blood this situation may arise even if the blood loss during childbirth is not particularly heavy.  For some women who have a pre-existing state of blood stagnation also show mind unsettled and obstructed.

Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine works very well for postpartum depression.  Treatment principle is to nourish blood, lift Qi, strengthen the heart and calm the mind.  Majority of cases can be helped in a relatively short period of time, perhaps a few months. Psychotic cases, treatment may have to be combined with Western medication.

Healthy Diet for balancing your hormones

We hope that everyone had a happy holiday and are looking forward to the new year! If your new year resolution is to be healthier, diet is one of the most important ways to change your lifestyle. Below we have listed some general guidelines for a healthy diet that will help balance your hormones. In future posts, we will break down exactly what kind of foods should be eaten.

The three main macronutrients that make up a diet are Carbohydrates, Protein and Fat. All three are important elements of a healthy, well-balanced diet.By basing your meals off one clean protein, healthy fats and vegetables along with the help of Chinese herbs will help your body regulate hormones naturally.

Carbohydrates have long been viewed as the enemy for hormonal imbalances such as those who suffer from PCOS. While it is true that carbohydrates with a high glycemic index(GI) can cause insulin resistance, it is important to have a balanced diet which includes carbohydrates! There are many foods that are low in glycemic index(which means they have low insulin resistance). By focusing on these low GI foods you can still enjoy carbohydrates and balance your hormones. Later, we will break down a list of low glycemic foods.

Protein provides essential amino acids to the body that the body cannot make on its own and must be consumed daily to balance hormones. Protein also decreases the hunger hormone and stimulates the production of hormones that will make you feel fuller faster. For optimal hormone health, experts recommend consuming a minimum of 20-30g. of protein per meal (1).

Fat especially is important in regulating hormones. Since hormones are produced by specific fatty acids and cholesterol, without them the body simply cannot form the correct hormones. Medium chain triglycerides, for example, have been shown to reduce insulin resistance in overweight and diabetic patients. Additionally, consuming healthy fats at every meal will trigger the same hunger hormones as above and will fill you up faster.

how chinese medicine help autoimmune infertility

How Chinese Medicine helps Autoimmune infertility

Women with autoimmune disease are clearly at risk for miscarriages and poor reproductive outcomes. Western Medicine often recommends blood thinners (Aspirin, Heparin and Levenox), steroids and intravenous immunoglobulin.

Chinese medicine has been treating autoimmune infertility for thousands of years. Treatments focus on achieving inner body balance such as:

  • Clearing the heat and draining dampness to reduce inflammation.
  • Helping circulation to move obstruction and stagnation.
  • Reinforcing Yin energy to tonify¬†Kidney Yin deficiency.
  • Strengthening both Kidney Yin and Yang to prevent miscarriage.
  • Reducing stress to prevent excess heat and Qi stagnation.

Based upon Chinese Medicine assessment, patients usually receive weekly acupuncture and herbs for their particular imbalance. They also will learn how to take care of themselves to avoid exhaustion and release stress by using meditations. Generally, we suggest patients stay away from processed foods, sweets, spicy foods, caffeine and non-organic meats. Other lifestyle changes such as moderate exercise and at least seven to eight hours of sleep each day.

If you suffer from recurrent pregnancy loss or been diagnosed with autoimmune infertility please contact us at 9726716688.  For more information on how acupuncture can help with infertility in general visit our website.

Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine for Luteal Phase Defect

The luteal phase is after ovulation has occurred, conception has taken place and the embryo is already in the uterus. During this period, we need to make sure that conditions remain favorable for an implantation and further growth of the embryo.

Patients that have Luteal Phase Defect are often frustrated when they are trying to get pregnant. I often see patients have shorter or unpredictable menstrual cycle, spotting several days before period, slow step like pattern of BBT graph and temperature rising less than 0.4 ‚ĄČ in the BBT chart. Even if an egg is fertilized patients still have a hard time getting or staying pregnant. However, Traditional Chinese Medicine focuses on Kidney Yang function which means keeping the womb-warm¬†by nourishing blood and promoting Qi.

We use blood and Kidney tonic herbs to fortify endometrial lining and allow it to be thick enough, and also sufficiently secrete nutrients to nourish an embryo. In addition, acupuncture is successful in increasing the flow of blood to the uterus. Acupuncture also promotes Qi as helping the embryo binds to the endometrium and then burrows into the lining. Stronger Qi not only makes the uterine lining hold the embryo securely but also avoid miscarriages.

If anyone has Luteal Phase Defect or has uterine lining issues please contact us by email info@acupunctureofdallas.com or by calling us at 972-671-6688.

treatment plan for endometriosis

Treatment Plan of Endometriosis-Acupuncture Dallas Fertility

Last time, we discussed how Acupuncture and Chinese¬†herbs help endometriosis. Today, we will discuss the treatment plan. Dr. Zhou recommends weekly treatments for three months, once the symptoms are stabilized and the treatment will be reduced to maintaining the results. For people wanting to conceive, weekly treatments will be six months or longer according to the severity. ¬†Chinese Medicine categorizes endometrial lesions into different¬†patterns. ¬†Dr. Zhou will do assessment using the principles of Chinese Medicine according to the pulse, tongue, and symptoms. ¬†In each case, Dr. Zhou will devise a treatment plan that will address the symptoms using Chinese herbs, Acupuncture and dietary/lifestyle advice according to each individual’s patterns presented.

During the treatment process, Acupuncture and herbs tonify the activity of the Yang Qi which reabsorbed the endometrial lesions or at least slows down their development. It also breaks up blood stasis, removes inflammation by clearing the damp heat,  and also moderates autoimmune reactions. Acupuncture reduces stress by quieting the mind and emotions which are important as part of pain management. Endometriosis is also related to hormonal imbalances. For example, in the case of estrogen dominance, it is important to relieve the body of excess estrogen by resolving Liver Qi stagnation.

In order to prevent further endometriosis from forming, Chinese medicine treatment is deeply rooted in improving the pelvic health and function. This is one of the major reasons Dr. Zhou emphasizes commitment to weekly treatments for those who suffer from Endometriosis. Endometriosis, Fertility, Infertility

How does Acupuncture & Chinese Herbs help Endometriosis and acheive Fertility

Endometriosis is the presence of endometrial tissue located outside of the uterine cavity. Most often, it is located on the ovaries but can also be found on any of the organs in the pelvic area. It leads to inflammation of the reproductive organs and causes pelvic pain, painful periods and infertility. Additionally, scar tissue in the pelvis can also occur.

For patients who struggle with endometriosis and are trying to conceive, western medicine may not be useful because many suppress ovulation which prevents pregnancy. Additionally, most reproductive endocrinologists don’t recommend surgery prior to IVF unless the patient suffers from advanced endometriosis.

Chinese medicine views Endometriosis as a weakness of Qi, or a deficiency in the immune system, which makes it more likely to develop endometriosis. While Chinese medicine doesn’t claim to cure endometriosis, it does show a history of providing significant relief and increasing the probability¬†of conception.

Acupuncture and herbal medicine address¬†the inflammation associated with autoimmune reactions as well as clearing the stagnant blood from the abdomen. A study indicates that Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan reduces specific uterine IgM levels and clear the toxins. Some other herbs can also improve vital energy such as Kidney Yang and Spleen Qi. Strong Qi in the pelvic region will move the menstrual debris that shouldn’t be there and will allow it to be destroyed by a now functioning immune system.

How Chinese Medicine help Poor Egg Quality before IVF

Poor egg quality often refers to a mitochondrial or chromosomal¬†issue. Mitochondria¬†is an energy producing organelle that also contains DNA and majorly impacts egg quality. There is not much that Acupuncture and Chinese herbs can help with DNA damage related to age however as most of the genetic material was created decades earlier. Chinese herbs like antioxidants can often enhance the function of the Mitochondria. Specifically, Chinese herbs that invigorate the QI and Yang are helpful in this case. It appears that Chinese Medicine can influence certain aspects of the egg(if not the DNA). Since Qi and Yang are highly related to the mitochondrial energy metabolism, the use of these herbs has been found to enhance mitochondrial ATP generation. Also, these herbs have also improved the ovary’s response to IVF. This could in part be due to the increased blood flow to the ovaries that Chinese herbs provide.

If your IVF doctor has told you that you have poor egg quality/High FSH/Low Ovarian Reserve then Acupuncture and Chinese herbs used three months before IVF can help increase your IVF success.

On our website, we have several testimonials from patients who have conceived with poor egg quality using Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. Please give us a call at 972-671-6688 or visit our website for more information.

Acupuncture increases IVF Success Rate-Acupuncture of Dallas Fertility

The success rate of treating infertility with Chinese medicine can be hard to determine since acupuncture’s treatment of infertility is a cumulative one. However, in 2008 studies were done to show that Acupuncture may increase IVF success rates by 65%. While these numbers only show a quantitative increase, acupuncture also focuses on the overall well-being of a person. It’s not just the number of eggs produced, it’s the quality of the eggs produced. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine seeks to nourish and stimulate the eggs to grow. Acupuncture¬†is also found to improve the thickness and quality of the endometrial lining(enrich the blood flow).

As we have mentioned before, the optimal time to start acupuncture treatment is three months before the beginning of the IVF cycle. This will help ensure that your eggs and sperm are of the best quality that they can be. It often takes about 3 months for the eggs and sperm to mature. Those three months are also used to make sure that the periods function well with no cramps and clots, no dark red flow. Additionally, Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine will address any underlying issues such as PMS, Endometriosis, PCOS, ovulation issues, High FSH etc. So, it is these months of regulating the reproductive system that gives you a much higher chance of success with IVF/IUI.

It is common to have higher stress during the IVF cycle and the possibility of side effects from drugs. Acupuncture can help reduce stress and side effects during IVF cycle.

If you are about to start an IVF/IUI cycle or just failed a medicated cycle, please contact us at 972-671-6688 or visit our website for more information on what we can do. Additionally, we have testimonials from IVF patients who used Acupuncture to conceive.
