Top 5 Acupressure Points for Stress

As discussed previously, stress is a major issue for fertility patients. Today, we will discuss the top 5 Acupressure points for Stress.

Acupoints are points on the body that runs closest to the surface. Acupressure uses those acupoints to stimulate energy with massage.

1.LV3: This point is located about one and a half inches between the first and second toes where the point feels tender. This point is often used to treat premenstrual breast tenderness, headache, and mood swings.

2. PC6: PC6 is located on the inner wrist two inches below the wrist in the center between two tendons. This point helps to regulate menstruation, relax the mind and treats anxiety, insomnia and depression. It is also often used before the IVF transfer.

3.HT7: This point is located on the inner wrist wrinkle on the pinky side. This point relaxes the mind and helps with insomnia, anxiety, and nightmares.

4. Yintang: Yintang is located between the eyebrows, and is the closest point to the pituitary gland(which regulates our hormones!). This point also helps to relax the mind and as a bonus resolves front head headaches.

5. UB2: This point is located at the inner edge of the eyebrow. Like it’s neighbor the Yintang, it also regulates the pituitary gland and resolves hormonal headaches.

There are many other acupressure points that will help with stress, however, these are the five we feel are the most important and easy to use. If you have any questions please email us using the contact form in the sidebar or give us a call at 972-671-6688.

Why Acupuncture Relieves Stress-Acupuncture Dallas

Acupuncture has long been associated with relieving stress, but now there is a new study that explains’s acupuncture’s benefit at the molecular level. Dr. Eshkevari, a professor at Georgetown University, and colleagues tested acupuncture on rats using needles. They had a control group with no added stress and no acupuncture, a group that received additional stress but no acupuncture and a group that received both stress and acupuncture.

As discussed in the previous article, how stress affects reproductive hormones, the body secrets additional hormones like cortisol and adrenaline into the blood which the researchers could measure in the rats. The researchers discovered that the “electronic acupuncture blocks the chronic stress-induced elevations of the HPA axis hormones”(Journal of Endocrinology). Unlike other more conventional methods such as drugs, acupuncture does not have any major side effects.

How does stress affect reproductive hormones

Everyone knows that stress negatively impacts your health, but how many people realize exactly how much stress may be affecting your reproductive hormones? When your body feels stressed it naturally releases hormones such as cortisol, which is derived primarily from progesterone, a reproductive hormone. Cortisol is similar to another hormone is known as adrenaline(i.e that fight or flight feeling), that might help us escape from danger but can actually prohibit fertility. Prolactin is a hormone that is released by the pituitary gland to inhibit a woman from becoming pregnant while nursing. However, prolactin can also be released in higher levels by the pituitary gland in times of stress.

Unfortunately, much of the stress we experience in modern times have nothing to do with that fight or flight response that triggered the above hormones. Most of our stressors arise from how we view problems instead of any real danger. For instance, we may be triggered by overworking, environmental pollution, worry, anxiety and other emotions. Under constant stress, our body does not deliver the necessary blood to the reproductive organs.

Next one we will discuss how Acupuncture reduces stress and balances the reproductive hormones. If you have any questions please visit our website to read more about Stress and Fertility.

How Acupuncture helps regulate Reproductive Hormones?

Various studies have now shown that acupuncture needle points can cause positive responses. The pressure exerted by the needle creates a small electric current, which causes a release of prostaglandins into the blood. Prostaglandins are lipids i.e fats that are known to regulate the female reproductive system in ovulation, menstruation and ultimately pregnancy. When the hypothalamus receives the messages that are being triggered by the needle point, hormones such as dopamine, adrenaline, and serotonin cause the release of GnRH which in turn triggers FSH and LH production. Both of these hormones are critical for a healthy ovulation cycle.

How Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs help poor egg quality and High FSH

Many women who suffer from high FSH and poor egg quality are told by Western Medicine doctors that there is a slim chance for conception. However, Acupuncture and Herbs can reduce FSH levels and increase egg quality by improving general health, increasing blood flow, and balancing reproductive hormones.

Herbs combined with Acupuncture and lifestyle changes can make a difference in improving egg quality. The quality of the egg is largely dependent on the hormone levels and general health of the body. In Dr. Zhou’s experience, poor egg quality and High FSH reflects a poor state of health rather than an inability to conceive. A stressful lifestyle is one of the largest contributing factors to poor egg quality.

As mentioned previously here, Acupuncture increases blood flow to the ovaries that will help nourish the ovaries and increase the ovarian function. In particular, Acupuncture and herbs build a stronger more nourished blood flow that increases the oxygen and nutrients available to the ovaries.

Acupuncture influences fertility by normalizing the function of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian Axis.  Stress disrupts hormonal communications between the brain and ovaries causing a hormonal imbalance. These imbalances can lead to irregular cycles, poor egg quality, and lack of ovulation.

For best results, Dr. Zhou recommends that patients commit to three months of Acupuncture and Herbs. This is primarily because follicular development takes three cycles to mature, so it is best to start treatment during its primary stage. Remember, nature cannot be forced into balance, having enough preparation time is essential for the body to balance itself.
